What does TRAICE do?

TRAICE is Recovery Intelligence for automotive finance providers, lenders and leasing companies. It uses connected vehicle data, direct from the manufacturer, to give recovery teams a clearer picture of where financed vehicles are and how they are being used, so they can make better-informed dispatch decisions.

Does TRAICE replace ANPR?

Accepted Answer

For connected vehicles from 2016+, yes. TRAICE becomes the primary location source instead of waiting for the next camera sighting. ANPR remains useful for pre-2016 or non-connected vehicles, and many recovery teams continue to use both alongside each other where that mix makes sense for the portfolio.

Is this continuous tracking?

No. TRAICE is recovery-triggered. Access is only activated after a lender has identified a legitimate recovery event, such as sustained missed payments, a terminated agreement or suspected fraud, and has opened a specific case. It is not used to continuously monitor customers or vehicles.

Does it replace my recovery process?

Accepted Answer

No. TRAICE plugs into your existing collections, recovery and field operations at the moment a case is opened. Your process, your agents and your commercial partnerships stay in place.

Which vehicle brands and models are supported?

Accepted Answer

TRAICE supports 24+ vehicle brands across European markets, covering the vast majority of leasing and finance vehicle portfolios. This includes all major German, French, Italian, Japanese and Korean manufacturers. Coverage extends to vehicles from model year 2016 onwards (depending on OEM and equipment) with active manufacturer connectivity. Where a manufacturer requires additional activation steps for recovery use, we manage that directly with the OEM as part of onboarding.

Which markets do you cover?

TRAICE is deployed across Europe, not only the EU. That includes the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland alongside EU markets. Coverage depends on OEM connectivity in the relevant market.

Question 7

How do you handle vehicles that aren't connected?

Accepted Answer

Vehicles that fall outside OEM connectivity (typically pre-2016 or non-connected models) are not eligible for TRAICE intelligence. We confirm eligibility for your VIN sample before contracting, so there are no surprises.

Is TRAICE compliant with UK and European data protection law?

Accepted Answer

TRAICE is built to support compliance with UK GDPR (as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025), EU GDPR and equivalent European frameworks. EU GDPR also applies across the EEA, including Norway and Iceland, and Switzerland is covered under its revised Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). In a recovery deployment the lender is the data controller and TRAICE acts as a data processor under a data processing agreement. We provide the contractual framework, including a DPA and documentation templates, and we are equally comfortable working on your own DPA paper. Final responsibility for the lawful basis and any required assessments sits with the controller, and we support that process throughout.

What is the lawful basis for monitoring a vehicle for recovery?

For asset recovery by the legal owner, the usual lawful basis is legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f). The lender, as controller, documents this in a Legitimate Interest Assessment (LIA), including the balancing test. Access is designed to be proportionate. For example, triggered by default rather than continuous blanket tracking, which strengthens that assessment. Where processing involves systematic location monitoring, a Data Protection Impact Assessment is also expected, and we help structure it.

Do you need the customer's consent?

Recovery does not rely on the customer's consent as its lawful basis, because consent could be withdrawn at the moment it is most needed. It rests on legitimate interests instead. There is a separate consent layer further upstream, where the driver agrees to the vehicle's connected services with the manufacturer or data provider. Customers are told about recovery-related processing in the finance agreement and the privacy notice, and they keep their data subject rights, including the right to object.

How does TRAICE access vehicle location without a GPS tracker?

TRAICE connects directly to manufacturer vehicle connectivity systems (OEM APIs). Modern vehicles from 2016 onwards (depending on OEM and equipment) continuously transmit telemetry data, including GPS coordinates, to their manufacturer's cloud. We access this data through official, GDPR-compliant partnerships. No aftermarket hardware is needed, and the vehicle occupant cannot detect or disable the connection.

Will TRAICE pass our procurement and vendor due diligence?

Yes. We are set up for lender procurement processes and work within your contract management tools. We provide a DPA, clear liability and indemnity positions, and evidence of our professional indemnity and cyber liability insurance as standard. Legal review to signature is typically completed in a few weeks.

How does pricing work?

TRAICE is typically priced on a portfolio basis rather than per-tracker or per-vehicle-per-month. We share indicative pricing bands during the intro call once we understand your portfolio profile.

Do you offer pilots?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most lenders start with a time-boxed proof of concept on a defined batch of vehicles, typically live recovery cases, under a lightweight PoC agreement and DPA. That validates coverage and recovery performance on your real portfolio before a wider rollout.

Contract length?

Most engagements start with a proof of concept and then move to a straightforward controller to processor agreement scoped to recovery use. Terms are agreed as part of contracting.

How long does integration take?

Accepted Answer

Weeks, not months. Integration is API-based. You provide your vehicle portfolio (VIN list) and TRAICE handles the manufacturer connectivity setup. No IT infrastructure changes or hardware installations are required on your side.

What do you need from us to go live?

A signed DPA and MSA, a VIN list of the portfolio in scope, and the internal users who need dashboard access with their roles.

Does anything need to change in our IT?
