Fraud · Connected-vehicle evidence

    Delivery and possession fraud

When the story and the vehicle disagree.

A customer says the financed vehicle was never handed over. The dealer says it left the forecourt. The agreement lists an address the vehicle has not visited during the observed period. TRAICE helps motor finance lenders compare those accounts with what the vehicle actually reports.

30-minute call. No commitment. Authorised data access, no fitted hardware.

    The investigation

Three stories. One vehicle to account for.

Paperwork records what was agreed. Movement shows what happened after the connection began. Recurring overnight locations and journeys in the first days can help establish where the vehicle appears to be kept, so a lender can get a useful answer in days rather than weeks when enough data is available.

    Pattern supports review

Insufficient evidence remains on the watchlist.

Observation supports investigation, not a conclusion about legal possession or fraud.
    01

    At the customer's address

Repeated overnight presence is evidence inconsistent with a claim of non-possession. Review it against the claim, dates and other case evidence; a location alone does not establish who had the vehicle.

    02

    Still at the dealership

The vehicle remains at the dealership throughout the observed period. A handover or process error may explain the dispute. Take the evidence back to the dealer rather than assuming customer fraud.

    03

    Somewhere else entirely

The vehicle repeatedly returns to a different location. An unexplained possession discrepancy may warrant a fraud investigation, supported by a documented observation trail.

A report to review, not a verdict to accept.

Structured reports bring together observation dates, recurring locations, relevant movement and confidence scores. Findings below the reporting threshold stay on a watchlist rather than being presented as settled conclusions. Missing observations and alternative explanations remain part of the review.

A UK motor finance lender already runs suspected fraud cases through TRAICE.

    A focused investigation workflow

    01

    Define the disputed case

Identify the vehicle, the claim and the relevant addresses. Confirm eligibility and the authorised basis for manufacturer data access.

    02

    Observe connected movement

TRAICE analyses reported movement and repeated presence from the start of the connection. A new connection does not reconstruct an unobserved past handover.

    03

    Review the evidence

Your team receives structured findings with confidence and limitations, and decides what to investigate with the customer or dealer.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from lender and fleet investigation teams.

Recovery helps locate a vehicle before an agent is dispatched. Delivery and possession fraud investigation checks whether observed vehicle movement is consistent with a disputed handover or possession account. They are separate use cases.

Repeated movements and overnight locations can emerge in the first days of a connection. Time to a useful report depends on vehicle eligibility, manufacturer reporting, movement and the amount of evidence available. There is no guaranteed number of days.

No. It describes the strength of the available pattern evidence, not the probability that a person committed fraud. Lenders must consider the claim, dates, alternative explanations and other evidence before making a decision.

Below-threshold findings stay on a watchlist. Missing data or a short observation period must not be treated as proof that a vehicle never visited an address.

A new connection does not establish historical handover facts from before data was observed. Reports distinguish the connected observation period from dates and claims supplied by the lender.

Eligibility depends on manufacturer connectivity, vehicle equipment and authorised data access. We check the vehicles and the proposed use case before a connection begins; no aftermarket hardware is fitted.
